Forest Health Issues – Mississippi
Maintaining healthy forests is of critical importance to the future of Mississippi. Mississippi has vast forest resources to be enjoyed and used. However, many factors, both endemic and invasive, can influence the health of our forests. These factors abiotic (i.e. wind, water, ice) and biotic (i.e. insects, pathogens, weeds, mammals, and man) influence the health of Mississippi forests. This website is designed to provide information about the most common forest health factors with appropriate links to information concern each of issues.
Management recommendations can also be found in association with most of the websites. One of the major programs in preventing the southern pine beetle is in place and described on this site.
